After Wellington, Christchurch and Tauranga we are looking forward to the next Armageddon Expo, and for the very first time, in Palmerston North.

Over the weekend of the 14th/15th this month, local troopers and troopers from around the country will come together to help make it a great first event for the city.

We'll be collecting money for the City Mission Palmerston North and any support you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to grab a photo with us, ask us any questions if you are interested in costuming or about joining the 501st Legion.

We look forward to seeing you!

CC-6407 was trooping recently and came across a little lady that was a wee bit shy. As she was leaving with her family, he asked if he could have a photo with her.

Today he received the following message from the young lady's mother:

"Hello Phil, hopefully I've managed to track down the correct Captain Rex. My daughter, Skylah, was at the Special Children's Extravaganza in New Plymouth last Saturday, and a Captain Rex absolutely made her day by letting her hold his helmet, and having a photo taken with her. If it was you, which I think it was, then please accept my heartfelt gratitude. She has not stopped talking about it, and we are printing out the pic for her to hang in her bedroom. Skylah absolutely believes that one of her heroes Captain Rex was truly there. Thank you so much for your kindness."

An amazing young lady got to meet her hero. Our Captain Rex (yes, he is the real one!) made a dream come true again! These are the stories that keep us all trooping and warm our hearts. So happy that we got to share this. Many thanks to Skylah and her family for allowing us to post this up.

Next up in our series of profiles is one of our newer members and one of only about 500 Centurion Level TK's across the globe... Name: Craig W ID No.: TK19024 Does your ID number have any significance? 19 and 24 are my favourite numbers How many costumes do you own and what are they? One, TK(Stormtrooper) Stunt from A New Hope Which costume is your favourite? As I have just the one it has to my TK but also from the time put into it to achieve Centurion. If you could have any costume, that you do not currently own, what would it be? Very close between Darth Vader and the Mandolorian. How long have you been a member of the 501st Legion/Outpost 42? Joined the Outpost 42 forum back in April 2020 and was approved as a TK in August 2020 What is your favourite Star Wars movie and why? The Empire Strikes Back. It is an action packed film throughout and I really liked the Battle of Hoth and also that Darth Vader is such a dominant figure in the film. Who is your favourite Star Wars character and why? Darth Vader. His presence. He is the ultimate villain and didn't let anything get in his way including choking the odd person to show who's boss. Do you have a favourite quote from Star Wars? I find your lack of faith disturbing - Darth Vader Why did you join the 501st Legion? I have always been a fan of Star Wars but after watching a documentary on the 501st and what they did in particular for various groups and charities it really inspired me. Being able to combine my Star Wars passion and trooping as an authentic character from the films ticks all the boxes. What has been your favourite/most memorable troop? Probably a tie with two. The first was the Upper Hutt Autism Group Christmas party and this was a great troop as it was an exclusive party for kids with differing levels of Autism. It was quite special to see the kids being able to relate and interact with us as characters from Star Wars. The second was Lego Brickcon in Palmerston North where I not only had the privilege of organising it but was able to combine two passions at the same time, Star Wars and Lego. This was another great troop with a huge amount of interaction with kids(and big kids) which was very rewarding. Do you have any special or funny stories from your time in Outpost 42? After coming off the stage in my TK armour from a virtual guest screening at Wellington Armageddon a father approached me with his two young daughters and said they wanted to get autographs. A little taken back I said no problems and he held out two tissues for me to sign. After borrowing a pen off him and pressing down on the tissues against the back of his phone the girls left with smiles

I’m not sure if our next 'profiler' is our tallest member, but he can't be far off! Name: Kevin K ID number: TI10934 Does your ID number have any significance? Yes, it is my plumber's registration number. How many costumes do you own and what are they? Just the one. ANH TIE pilot. Which costume is your favourite? That would be the TIE pilot. If you could have any costume, that you do not currently own, what would it be? Darth Vader, without a doubt. How long have you been a member of the 501st Legion/Outpost 42? Since May 2017 What is your favourite Star Wars movie and why? "A New Hope" although it will always be just "Star Wars" to me (and that was always the original title). It's the one that started it all and the one I'll always watch if I have to choose. Who is your favourite Star Wars character and why? TIE pilots. They were considered the elites of the Imperial forces but expendable at the same time. They went out into combat in their tiny little ships without shields or even life support but with unswerving loyalty to their Emperor. They were true underdogs. Do you have a favourite quote from Star Wars? "I find your lack of faith disturbing" - Darth Vader, A New Hope. Why did you join the 501st Legion? A couple of reasons. To dress up and look awesome firstly but also to help raise money for all the different charities we work with. Putting smiles on faces is pretty cool too. What has been your favourite/most memorable troop? Since I became a member I've attended 53 events in costume. I've trooped at Armageddons, weddings, birthday parties, a funeral, Christmas parades and movie premieres. However the one that sticks in my mind the most is visiting the children's ward at Waikato Hospital with Alistair. We spent some time with some little people and their families who were going through a really tough time and to have the opportunity to brighten their day, even for just a moment, was very humbling and an absolute privilege. Do you have any special or funny stories from your time in Outpost 42? While we were in Waikato Hospital we visited a young fella and his Mum. He told us he had never seen any of the Star Wars movies. Before we left one of the nurses came and told us he was watching A New Hope on his Mum's tablet. Have you ever trooped overseas, and if so, where? No. Is there an event you haven't done yet that you'd like to participate in? I've trooped at Auckland and Tauranga Armageddons but not Wellington or Christchurch so I'd like to cross them off the list too. What is your fondest memory of Star Wars? Going to see Star Wars (A New Hope) in the Cinerama picture theatre, in Queen St Auckland, with my best mate John and his parents who took us in 1978.

Sorry that it has been a while since we posted a member profile. Next one up is a very long serving member.

Which costume is your favourite? TK

If you could have any costume, that you do not currently own, what would it be? Imperial Guard
How long have you been a member of the 501st Legion/Outpost 42? Since 2009. First trooped with the Garrison in 2007.

What is your favourite Star Wars movie and why? A New Hope – as a 7 year old watching this massive ship fly overhead was something I have never forgotten.

Who is your favourite Star Wars character and why? Darth Vader. Very ominous, all powerful with stage presence.

Do you have a favourite quote from Star Wars? Luke…. I am your father.

Why did you join the 501st Legion? I have always loved the TK armour, yet couldn’t justify the cost. Then when I found out there was a club and what they get up to, it was a no brainer.

What has been your favourite troop? Launching Winter Fest on stage with the Garrison and John Key (former NZ Prime Minister)

Do you have any special or funny stories from your time in Outpost 42? While we were waiting backstage with helmet on, John Key pleasantly surprised that I could talk through my comms set. He was so impressed he called out to his wife to come and meet a Stormtrooper.

Have you ever trooped overseas, and if so, where? Not yet. I want to go to Celebration in the future.

Do you have a favourite Star Wars collectible? My fleet of ships for the game X-Wing.

What do your friends and family think about Outpost 42 and the work we do? Friends absolutely support what I and the Garrison do!! I have over 30 T’s that have been gifted that reinforce their support.
What keeps you motivated to keep trooping? The wonderful group of people that make up the Garrison.

What role do you have on the Council? Captain of the Guard.

Give a brief description of what that role entails: The position is one of a judicial role. A mediator to ensure that code of conduct is follow by (all) parties involved in a Garrison dispute. In a broader role, I am happy to discuss any concerns that members may have. To move things forward in a positive manner. If I don’t have the answers straight off the bat, I will seek out the information you require.

It's a really special day when our little Outpost 42 family gets a little bigger.

A small bundle of joy joined us on June 13th. Dana (TI-11827) and Brendan (TX-84218) welcomed Jun James (JJ) into the galaxy. Both Mum and baby are doing well.

The Force is strong with them.
